Bierut for the USA

Men’s Vogue asked Michael Bierut (not Beirut) to design a more politically neutral lapel pin. Bierut’s typographic solution reorganizes the familiar “USA” configuration into a monogram that displays its own kind of unity. The pins have been produced in a limited edition of 5,000 and are now available at a recession-priced $10 each from Men’s Vogue with proceeds going to Puppies Behind Bars. - Via www.pentagram.com

All I have to say is, "typographic solution".

Awesome,

S

American Apparel - Emergency Jacket

The "Lightweight Taffeta Emergency Jacket" by American Apparel is awesome! Why you ask, because any item of clothing that folds up into a sewn-in zippable pouch is cool. Perfect for the jet-setter type looking to take nothing more than a weekender bag for a quick getaway or business trip, this windbreaker can be worn casual or styled up in many creative ways.

Aside from the Kangaroo, this is my second favorite Marsupial.

Men In Heels

Fashion Alert: MEN CAN WEAR HEELS NOW

...LOL, I'm not sure if that's really the case, but I wanna give this man the respect he deserves for pulling off this look. Yes it is a bit Grace Jones, but it's still authentic to me. It doesn't feel like he's cross-dressing, it feels like pure adrogenous chic... do you see the distinction?

Next time you're wondering if that certain article of clothing you're wearing is just 'too much', please think back to this daring young man. For crying out loud, if he can wear a jumper with heels, you can surely wear skinny jeans.

Everyday is another opportunity to whip up a killer ensemble, so get up and wear something provacative.

Style is a terrible thing to waste... you can quote me on that,

Raf Simons for Eastpack

Those who read my blog often enough know that I'm a big fan of Raf Simons, especially avid to his more casual line called RAF by Raf simons.

That said, It's no surprise that I'm really digging the collabo he's doing with Eastpack backpacks.

Seriously, Eastpack stepped its game up with this collection. Jansport should be very very scared!

What I love most about the collection is seeing a company like Eastpack respond to the current state of the retail marketplace. We want high fashion, design savvy products, and we want them to be infused in everything we buy. That's what I think.

Check out: http://87.106.137.70/rafsimons/ to see the entire f/w 08 collection.

I believe Barney's COOP is carrying some pieces now.

The Highest Form of Flattery

Open letter to Timbaland:

I'm all for sampling loops as a valid form of artistic expression in music, but please give credit when and where it's do. When you're "sampling" tracks like that of Crystal Castles song "Courtship Dating" or the loads of Arabic & Iranian music that you sample, please send a few dollars to the originators way. This way, you fuel the sources of creativity which inspire you, and everyone's a winner.

For seanyashar.com readers with extra curiosity on this subject, just go to youtube and type in "Timbaland ripps off Arabic music", "Timabaland ripps off Iranian Folklore", and the creme de la creme "Producer Timbaland rips song from finnish musician?"

By the way, I'm loving Crystal Castles "Courtship Dating" ... an awesome track.

Alex & Chloe T-Shirt

No one despises the 'Humor-T' more than I do. Catch phrases like "trust me I'm a doctor" or "everyone loves a Jewish boy" haunt me in my sleep. The humor-T had its day, but it was never cool...NEVER!

At the same time and in true hypocritical form, I've always fantasized about creating an apparel line built around bold statements, old proverbs, and the powerful decrees of history...Statements that served to provoke something inside you...statements that could shift the consciousness of a whole society.

Today I was checking out what's new on the website of the famed jewelery line called Alex & Chloe (www.alexandchloe.com), when I saw the best example of what my vision looks like.

I'm loving the "Protest" T-shirt designed by artist Kenzo Minami. Wouldn't it be awesome if presidential candidates had campaign apparel like this?

The only downside of the T is that it costs about $154, and that's a little too pricey for me. I guess that's the cost of protesting these days... wow!

BTW, Alex & Chloe have a really vast collection of jewelry that you should check out too.

SYI: After getting the liscening figured out, I think a T-shirt line using song lyrics would be a striking collection. Personally, I would totally wear some Morrisey lyrics. Just the lyrics, no pics. I'm not into band T-shirts with tour dates either. The idea is that those who know the lyric will know, and those who don't, won't.
