YSL's Art Auction

One of the most anticipated events on the 2009 auction calendar is undoubtedly the Yves Saint Laurent / Pierre BergĂ© sale, slated for Christie's in February. The private collection, amassed by the legendary fashion designer and his partner over the last fifty years, is exceptional as much for its quality and sheer size – more than 700 eclectic works in total (included are paintings by Picasso, Goya and Mondrian), estimated at well over €200 million.

As for its veiled exclusivity, unseen for decades by anyone outside the pair's private circle. Until now that is.

Housed in Saint Laurent's Paris apartment above the rue de Babylone, we've been allowed a peek inside to preview the works in their original setting and get a rare glimpse inside the late designer's home.

Check out Wallpaper to see a photo slide show of YSL's apartment and art.

Tenori-on & Little Boots

The Tenori-on takes an inventive new approach to music composition. Music instantly becomes a wall of light graffiti as you paint the sounds across its 256 LED buttons. IMO, It's the digital musical instrument for the 21st century. Check out youtube for a bunch of step-by-step tutorials that will amaze you. It may look kinda funny, but it's actually a sophisticated instrument for advanced users.

Check out my new favorite girl, "Little Boots", as she uses the Tenori-on to cover Hot Chip's "Ready for the floor".

This is the kinda stuff that makes you realize that we are living in a futuristic age. Love it.

I can't wait to see the first Tenori-on DJ break onto the scene.

Open the Door for Couture

With the current state of our global economy, I probably shouldn't be making this unnecessary plug for the new Baldwin Couture knob and lever collection. That said, these high-style knobs and levers are like jewelry for the home, very delicious, and worth every penny.

What's the hurt in adding another $400 dollars to our 1.2 trillion dollar deficit?!

Dream Job: Posing For Pay

"Model Coco Rocha shows artist Jeremy Kost every pose in her arsenal — in fast-forward. Watch in amazement as Coco breezes through moods and emotions and makes us want to try posing in front of our mirror." - Jeremy Kost for New York Magazine

Who wouldn't want to get paid for doing this?!

The Elements of Style

The Elements of Style, E.B. White and William Strunk's 1918 classic manual on writing and usage, has long been considered the rule book for English grammer and composition.

Now with a new edition featuring illustrations by Maira Kalman, the book is grabbing attention from new admirers - me.

To make a long story short, The Elements of Style changed the way people wrote in the later half of the 20th century. English evolved into a much more simpler way of expressing ideas, and the book was the vehicle that carried that notion and the way we all write today.

I recommend this book to anyone who has a love for writting, or to those who collect books. The new look makes for a nice coffee table book too.

Of Montreal - "Jimmy" Cover

Of Montreal's latest album "Skeletal Lamping" is awesome. It's experimental, funky, lyric driven goodness. If you haven't heard it yet, check them out.

Here's a version of M.I.A.'s track "Jimmy" that they covered. Love it.

BTW, it turns out that the M.I.A. version of the song is actually a cover of this:
