Acqua di Parma Leather Goods

As a Creative in the business world, I'm entertained by brands that successfully diversify without selling out.

As with all powerful brands in today's marketplace, Acqua di Parma seeks to align itself with a certain je ne sais quoi... a quality that eludes description, yet somehow creates a lifestyle out of mere products. The launch of an Aqua di Parma line of leather goods seems to be just that kind of stepping stone.

Think about it. Beautiful luggage = a life of luxury. Very smart.

The collection is sophisticated, timeless, and subtle... probably a backlash to the monogram craze that the fashion industry is stuck in right now.

YSL's Bottle Rocket

L'Homme, YSL

Torre Agbar, Barcelona Spain.

This sleek test tube is actually YSL's new starchitect-designed fragrance bottle. Torre Agbar architect Jean Nouvel is the designer, and from the looks of it, the Frenchman hasn't strayed too far from his tower-erecting formula. The limited-edition bottle is for the brand's popular Chinese-ginger-meets-citron-zest scent, L'Homme. "It's phallic, but then you turn it upside down and it's not," Nouvel said at last night's NYC launch. "I wanted it to be very ergonomic, so you can put it in your coat pocket." Nouvel also included a "sparkle of light" bobber (with an iridescent YSL logo) inside.

L'Homme Yves Saint Laurent available this May, $79.50, at yslbeautyus.com

Andy Warhol Smells

Andy Warhol once said his favorite smell was "the first smell of spring in New York".

Called "Andy Warhol Union Square", The perfumer Bond No. 9's has created a Warhol-inspired frangrance for a limited addition collection.

The bottle design is inspired by Warhol's "Flowers" silkscreens and by Union Square, which was the second location of his Factory.

And the smell itself? It has a cool silver cloud musk and amber base, with lily of the valley top notes and a sweet blue freesia and white birchwood heart. " It is complex and quirky but does not cross the line into the land of strange for strangeness's sake. It is rich with amber, but not overwhelming. Incense-heavy, but not churchy. Sweet but not syrupy." - (perfumesmellinthings.com)
